Samantics in Sheffield
Cross Scythes, Sheffield
Sunday 15th November 2020
An evening of the best in alternative and aspiring music with the incredible Samantics, an acoustice Celtic set from The Sillk Road and a Sheffield debut for young Joel Fox, who is one to watch.
Samantics is a next generation one man band. Using a loop-station and a sh*t load of instruments he creates live, multi-instrumental spoken word. He's not a stereotypical rapper, he's not into maiming and murking Gs but he does like gaming a slurping tea.
With an infectious blend of raw punk, gritty passionate lyrics, and foot stomping celtic jigs and reels, The Silk Road wear their hearts on their sleeves and keep their feet firmly planted in values of solidarity, compassion and the wish for a better world for all.
Cut from the same cloth as New Model Army and The Clash, and at times reminiscent of 80's anarcho-punk bands like Zounds or The Mob, The Silk Road's compositions are all original, fresh and familiar at the same time, with addictive melodies, soaring fiddle and guitar solos and chest thumping drums and bass.
Joel Foz is a 14 year old singer-songwriter with a real future. Influenced by Gaz Brookfield, Nick Parker and The Levellers, he writes and plays his own songs with gusto and no lack of personal and emotional punch.
