Sink Ya Teeth in Sheffield

Sink Ya Teeth
Record Junkee, Sheffield
Saturday 4th December 2021

Come Play With Me presents... SINK YA TEETH, plus a supporting line-up of all LGBTQIA+ talent from across the UK!

SINK YA TEETH are an English post-punk dance infused duo, formed in 2015.

The band features ex-Girl In a Thunderbolt's Maria Uzor and ex-KaitO's Gemma Cullingford who write, record and produce all of their music themselves from their Norwich homes.

They fuse 80’s and 90’s inspired rare groove and Electronic Dance Music with post-punk bass lines and ferocious vocals, with subject matters focusing on the human experience that everyone can relate to.

Their self-titled debut album, released June 2018 on Hey Buffalo, won 6 Music's 'Album of the Day', and was championed by Steve Lamacq and BBC Introducing, who invited them to Maida Vale to record a session.

In 2019, the duo courageously stepped in to headline Slovakia's Pohoda Festival in front of a crowd of 30,000 people - a defining moment in their career so far.

Their sophomore album 'Two', released in 2020, was released to critical acclaim:

"...Far more than a fine pastiche, Sink Ya Teeth's mix of scruffy nihilism and after-hours house makes for a weirdly compelling proposition" - Uncut
" ...fathoms-deep house, electro and post punk funk underpin Norwich duo Maria Uzor and Gemma Cullingford's second, Uzor's cold fire vocal throwing ESG-shapes on the dancefloor" - MOJO ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
"...[the duo] return for a follow-up cut largely from the same cloth, but this time a little rounder and fully realised in its first half, and a little more expansive in its second" - Loud & Quiet, 8/10
"...This album is good. Really good. Awesome in fact" - Electronic Sound
PLUS SUPPORT FROM...

ANNABEL ALLUM

Whether side-stepping rogue rabbit holes in the fields of Guildford’s Pewley Down, exercising her natural curiosity with a stroll along the canal banks of the River Wey or zipping through Austin, Texas on a scooter, ready to wreak havoc on SXSW with her bandmates beside her; the world of Annabel Allum is a Wonderland of magnificent contradictions.

At her most visceral, Annabel is a troubadour for the millennial age, with vitriolic explosions of ferociously grungy guitar and gut-wrenching honesty, deftly attuned to observations of what lies beyond her Lennon-framed lenses. When contemplative, Annabel is an astute poet; praised as much for her words, as for her imagination and sensitivity - a DIY artist in the truest sense.

Long marked out as one to watch, the swell of praise for Annabel Allum from all corners is resounding. Long-time championed by BBC Radio 1, she’s made the daytime playlist, had a live session at the iconic Maida Vale studios as well as performing on their SXSW stage, a festival which she’s now taken by storm twice. Other notable shows include a dream-come-true emotional performance at Reading festival, as well as The Great Escape; tours with Nadine Shah, Sleeper and Beth Ditto have been the perfect way to cut her teeth in the presence of esteemed artists.
