Nobody ever knows how to describe Ruth or her music. She has managed over the years, to carve out a unique sound for herself. Completely original yet wholly and instantly recognisable as her own. In an industry obsessed with nostalgia, this is no mean feat. And her ability to write on contemporary issues with a sense of timelessness make her a truly relevant contemporary British artist. Ruth writes her own instrumental arrangements, composes for large vocal ensembles and more recently full symphony orchestras.

Ruths full discography is filed in the British Library sound archives as a valuable contribution to the nations music for its interesting nature and originality.

Remaining true to her unique style Ruth has often performed alongside legendary artists including folk legend Ani DiFranco, Dar Williams, Todd Sickafoose, Nick Harper, Jeff Lang, Hamell On Trial, Chastity Brown and Rory McLeod. Notable performances include The London Palladium, The Union Chapel, Jazz Cafe, Bush Hall, The Borderline, The Lexington and Glastonbury Festival

Coming from a creative but fractured background, living in squats, boats, abandoned warehouses, busking in high street doorways and sleeping under workbenches have all been a part of the creative journey, and with integrity firmly intact, these life experiences bring a warmth and depth of perspective to Ruths lyrics that are particular to her and the disarming character of her writing style.

Ruth has released four critically acclaimed albums to date, three self released through her own label River Rat Records and the most recent, recorded with Tony award winning producer and bassist Todd Sickafoose (Anais Mitchell Hades Town/Ani Difranco) through London based Aveline Records. Ruth also appears as backing singer on records by other artists including the upcoming record from US punk legend Hamell On Trial.

The 2020 pandemic saw Ruth undergoing intensive cancer treatment. Hauled up in a closed down pub Ruth kept creating her unique and moving music. This period has resulted in over two albums worth of new music that is set to be recorded in Brooklyn NYC this year with the help of past collaborator, co-producer and percussionist Mathias Kunzli (Regina Spektor, Lauren Hill).

2021 Ruth was given the all clear and based on her recent works was awarded an Arts council grant to compose and realise an original choral project. This same year Ruth also received a scholarship from Berklee College of Music (Boston USA) to study orchestration as a result of her original compositions for jazz ensemble and full orchestra.
